The National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) is the umbrella organization for 26 national and international sororities and women’s fraternities in North America. The Alabama Panhellenic Association (APA) represents NPC and is the coordinating body for the 19 NPC women’s organizations on The University of Alabama campus. For more than 100 years, UA Greek women have been recognized for their scholastic achievement, campus involvement and community service by the NPC which promotes the values of, and advocates for, its member groups within the organization and in collaboration with the University and the community.
The council is composed of 11 executive board members, a delegate and two junior delegates from each sorority. Panhellenic executive council members are current sorority members who have disaffiliated from their chapters during recruitment in order to provide unbiased planning and support for all involved in the process. Panhellenic strengthens the Greek community and is responsible for promoting scholarship, philanthropy, and safety for each sorority as well as the Greek community as a whole. Panhellenic provides activities and programs throughout the year to address current issues affecting college women.
The Alabama Panhellenic Association desires to build a community that reflects diversity and inclusion within our sorority chapters. We strive to make our campus stronger through our commitment to promoting diversity and creating positive change within the Greek community. Women of all backgrounds make up the Alabama Panhellenic Association and each individual is celebrated for her perspectives, ideas and contributions to her organization and to our entire community.
APA sororities traditionally admit new members in August through the Primary Recruitment process, which occurs the week before the start of the fall semester. Fall Primary Recruitment at The University of Alabama is scheduled for Saturday, August 10 through Sunday, August 18, 2019. Online registration for 2019 Primary Recruitment officially closes on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. CST. Women interested in participating in Recruitment, can register via the 2019 Sorority Recruitment Registration Form. The form will be available online Spring 2019. Some chapters also engage in a less formal recruitment process known as Continuous Open Bidding, or COB, in the fall and spring.
